“Amelia Pond hasn’t lived here for a very long time.”

I’ve been saying I’ll do it for ages, and now, I am! :D

I’m going to try and put together a few sketchdumps of all the episodes from Series 5. I’ve missed drawing these characters! I’m a bit rusty.

from Episode 1: ‘The Eleventh Hour’

Some colour studies for my dad project (see this post)
The house in the moonlight appealed to me… I think I ought to do a tonal study in greys and whites first though.
Can you tell I don’t work with colour enough? Gah.

Tonight I was inspired to draw Rapunzel after seeing the recent development sketches posted by Claire Keane (whose work I greatly admire).
I loved the pages from her sketchbooks she kept to develop the character and her working out of her personality traits and habits. Noting in particular, the thoughts on how Rapunzel would experience both ‘good’ and ‘bad’ days.
This sketch is meant to represent just another day in the life of Rapunzel. She’s closed her window shutters behind her; perhaps just after Mother Gothel has left, or perhaps just as the sun has set, and she pauses for a moment to reflect on things with a slight tiredness about her.

‘Monsieur, don’t mock me now, I pray.
It’s hard enough I’ve lost my pride..’
A dying Fantine from Les Miserables. Sketch based on the film version (though drawn from memory, so costume is not accurate)

I bought Les Miserables on Blu-Ray today.
Little sketch of Jean Val Jean with little Cosette inspired by the moment in the film with the new song, ‘Suddenly I see’. Very rough and nowhere near a ‘finished’ drawing but oh well.
(No reference btw, I wasn’t trying to draw Hugh Jackman! So just a sketch interpretation of the scene!) :P

Rough preliminary sketch for a piece for my dad.
We were watching Grand Designs tonight and my dad told me about how he had always talked about building a house from scratch with his father. He mentioned my grandpa had nearly bought a disused railway station back when my dad was very young, which had been on the same trainline he (my grandpa) used to go to school on as a child. Unfortunately, the owners did not sell it.
As soon as he said all this, I knew I had to do this as a little illustration project. It’ll be a nice surprise for him I hope.
I’m trying to channel some flat-naive style illustration, but in my own way. This is an initial rough sketch which I will flesh out with actual reference over the next few weeks. I will do some trial colour studies on Photoshop. If I’m happy with how it turns out digitally, I’ll go with it, but if not, I’ll use paint on canvas.
This will be a good chance to do something I am not used to! (About time - I have been playing it safe all too long) I don’t do backgrounds at all, so I am looking forward to giving this a good go!
Wish me luck!

Today I went to my younger cousins’ Primary school for their annual May Fair. There are lots of stalls and this year I was able to have my own stall where I could sketch some of the attendees!

It was such a great day, although the weather took a turn for the worse (as to be expected in England). So although it started bright sunny and very windy (note the yellow stickers holding everything in place), it ended cold, rainy and windy by the end of the fair.

The kids were so sweet. They were between 4 and 8 years old, and they were just the greatest sitters! Conversation-wise, we covered most things, from favourite animals, favourite school subjects to favourite TV programmes. (Two girls in particular were really knowledgeable and had some really insightful thoughts on Doctor Who! Seriously, they were really intelligent.. I was intimidated…)

So all in all, it was a terrific day. I wasn’t able to take any photos of the sketches I completed, as I didn’t have enough time! (There was a constant queue of kids so I couldn’t really stop to fuss with a camera) But at the end of the fair, my stall was the last one to be disassembled, and unfortunately I missed out on drawing three kids (One of which started to cry, bless her!) Though hopefully I will be able to draw them again at the school’s Pre-School Fair which I will be attending in July. I also gave the little girl who was upset one of my business cards which seemed to cheer her up :)

A good few people took my business cards and sounded interested in commissions, which would be fantastic too.

Absolutely knackered by the end of it, but what a great time I had!

Thanks to all the kids who sat for me! You were awesome! :)

Matt Smith, as the Doctor.
I’ve missed his face (to draw, I mean).
Idk. It’s late.

I saw this woman in the London Underground a few days ago.
She was carrying the largest/tallest bouquet of flowers I’ve ever seen. As she got off the train, all of the flowers were falling off and leaving a pretty little pink trail behind her.

I ordered the Doctor Who series 5 Bluray boxset which has now arrived! Hooray! I am ready to relive the beauty that was series 5. Can’t wait to rewatch! :D
This is Amy looking less than impressed (at me for not drawing her for so long!) Drawn yesterday, uploaded today due to silly internet problems.
I’ll draw you more now, Amy, I promise! Don’t look at me like that!

I’ve been commissioned by my aunt to create a poster of my younger cousin (a.k.a.; ‘Awesome Joe’) as a super-hero surrounded by his favourite super-hero friends.
I toyed with the composition of this, as well as the poses (which are definitely not set in stone yet either) but here’s the first work-in-progress rough.
Oh my. Batman, Spidey and Hulk look HORRENDOUS anatomy-wise. I must confess I havent yet looked at reference for the last two *cough can you tell splutter*
But it is a rough layout! So I will most likely start again on the ones I’m not happy with! And I will be looking at reference of my cousin for his face too.. This was just generic young boy really… with a touch of Jack Frost come to think of it well I did watch RotG twice today ehem
I’ve been using Alex Ross’ super-heroes artwork as inspiration especially for ‘Awesome Joe’s’, Superman and Batman’s pose… but god they do look terrible… oh dear.

So yesterday I walked past Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine irl

I’m just going to post some gifs of my basic reaction to this because I was going to draw a comic but failed miserably and gifs basically sum up the whole thing pretty well..

So I was walking along Shaftesbury Avenue at the time. It was extremely crowded (it was around 7pm, i.e.: theatreland crazy-time) so I was looking down trying to get past people as I normally do when walking around London at busy times. UNTIL SUDDENLY FROM THE HEAVENS

image

They stepped out of the car. I literally only looked up because (I swear to God) they seemed to emit some holy light they really stood out. Both were wearing amazing suits and they looked so damn shiny and amazing. They were not even a metre away from me, I literally walked right past them.

So to sum up how I reacted to this in the split second it happened:

It was magical. I can’t wait for ‘Into Darkness’. Booked the tickets for this coming Saturday. These guys are just awesome. Looking forward to seeing it! :)

I was recently introduced to the world of DC comics as illustrated/painted by Alex Ross in ‘The World’s Greatest Superheroes’ written by Paul Dini. Basically, Alex Ross is bloody amazing and I am a little bit hooked on his series of stories in this particular compilation.
So I felt like drawing Wonder Woman. I was trying to draw a full body shot but was failing miserably, so just a head shot for now.
